DUNDEE UNITED ANNOUNCE FOUR CONTRACT EXTENSIONS

4th November 2013

Dundee United is delighted to announce contract extensions for four of the Club's outstanding Youth Academy prodigies. John Souttar (17), Ryan Gauld (17), Euan Spark(16) and Darren Petrie(18) have all signed extended deals securing their future at the Club.

Ryan Gauld is an enormously skilful midfielder and made his first team debut as a substitute in an away game versus Motherwell in May 2012. Ryan has progressed through the youth set up and under Jackie McNamara he has became an integral part of the first team squad having already play 25 times for the first team scoring 4 goals. He signs a contract extension securing him to the Club until May 2016.

Central defender John Souttar became the youngest ever first team player at United on 2nd January 2013 when he started the match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie aged 16 year and 100 days. Another who has been at the Club since the age of 9, he has appeared 17 times for the first team and is now a fixture within the first team squad. John signs a contract extension securing him to the Club to May 2016.

Euan Spark has progressed through the various age groups since joining at 9 years old and his wholehearted committed defending ability is matched by his attitude and application. Euan likes to get forward from his full back role and offers a good option as an overlapping player. His extension secures his contract at Dundee United until at least May 2016.

Darren Petrie, a holding midfielder, made his first team debut against Aberdeen on 2nd January 2013 and currently captains the Scotland Under 19s International team. With Manager Jackie McNamara keen to have Darren experience first team football, he spent a month on loan at Brechin City in October 2013. Darren signs a contract extension which secures him to the Club until May 2015.

Manager Jackie McNamara said, "This is very positive news for the Club and it's fans. These four lads demonstrate exactly what we are trying to achieve at Dundee United. Ryan and John have already made the step up into the first team squad and Euan and Darren have both experienced being with the first team.

"Ryan and John have shown they see their future at the Club and indicated a determination to continue their football education at Tannadice. They have made great progression in their young careers so far and developing in the Scottish Premiership with United is the best option for that to continue.

"Darren and Euan have earned these extensions by showing the correct application and desire. I will be looking for both to push for more first team squad opportunities as this season develops.

"United fans should rightly enjoy this news. Extending the contracts of such promising players gives security and also highlights that this is a Club which will give opportunities to young players who show the correct attitude and ability levels. These lads are a part of vibrant set up that we have in place at Dundee United and these contract extensions show our desire to continue to build in the correct manner."
