ST MIRREN U20S 1 - 0 UNITED U20S

15th October 2013

In a high tempo affair at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie, the Tangerines were unfortunate to be undone by a goal nine minutes from time.

Saints' winner came when United looked much the likelier winners in a game of few chances.

There were, however, near misses for both sides early on.

In the very first minute. Kudus Oyenuga's 22-yard grounder was well saved by Saints' keeper.

And almost immediately later, John Scullion's pile-driver from just outside the box flew fractionally wide of the target.

But with a Thomas Reilly effort relatively easily saved by United keeper Joe McGovern, the only home effort on target came after 28 minutes.

Both sides started the second half in more enterprising action, but again neither keeper was tested too often.

However, United did go close 15 minutes from the end when Scott Fraser met a Morgaro Gomis cross but headed straight into the keeper's arms.

The decisive goal followed a great save from a Scullion shot, only for it to count for nothing with Jason Naismith bundling home the resultant corner.

Dundee United: McGovern, Gilmour, Spark, Gomis, Hendry, Ballantyne, Montgomerie, Millar, Oyenuga, Fraser, M Russell (McLaughlin 66). Subs not used: Tumilty, Allardice, Malcolm, Carrick.
