A last minute equaliser enabled St Johnstone's Youth team to triumph 4-2 on penalties to lift the 2011-12 Forfarshire Cup at Tannadice tonight.
For a final, the first half was a very low key affair. United made the better start and a back header from Mark Russell went narrowly past after two minutes.
And Jamie Montgomery warmed Saints keeper Mark Hurst's hands with a pile-driver from 25 yards that only lacked direction.
Thereafter, the visitors enjoyed the bulk of possession for the remainder of the half, but United held firm with keeper Phil Anderson untested.
Indeed, it wasn't until the hour mark that Saints got a shot on target, but Liam Caddis's effort was easily dealt with by Anderson.
Three minutes later, Irishman Adam Harwood headed a well-struck Scott Gray effort over the bar as Saints threatened for the first time.
Shortly afterwards, Harwood could have been on the scoresheet at the other end heading a Scott Smith free-kick past the post from a good position.
The introduction of Scott Fraser sparked the Tangerines into life and he played a one-two with Aidan Connelly to sweep home the opener from 12-yards with 19 minutes left.
And with United looking like holding on with a degree of comfort, home skipper Ross Gilmour's clearance cannoned in off Chris Kane to take it to penalties and ultimately victory.
