Dundee United today completed, subject to international clearance, the signing of attacker Nadir Ciftci on a two-year-deal. The 21-year-old becomes the Club's ninth summer signing after a three week trial period in which he impressed Manager Jackie McNamara.
Comfortable as a striker or as a winger, Nadir will increase the Manager's striking options and joins the Club after terminating his contract at NAC Breda. Nadir has previous experience of British football having signed for Portsmouth as a 15-year-old and played 19 times for Pompey scoring one goal. His career then took him to Kayserispor in Turkey before he returned to Netherlands with Breda. He has played seven times for the Turkish Under-19s scoring once and also played at Under-17 level for the Netherlands.
Manager Jackie McNamara said: "Nadir has really impressed me. He will become an important member of our squad. He is strong, clever, has pace and an eye for goal. He has quickly become part of the squad and is a great guy to have around the dressing room. His desire to sign for Dundee United was obvious because he had more lucrative options but made it clear he wanted to progress his career at Tannadice."
Nadir Ciftci said: "I enjoyed my trial period. This is a fantastic Club with great players and coaches. I want to join Dundee United because I know I can become a better player here. The players are not only good footballers but also have made me feel so much part of the Club since I arrived. The fans have also made me feel welcome. I am delighted to have signed."
