Last Monday, an under-strength Tangerines' side found their Pittodrie counterparts too strong for them at Peterhead's Balmoor Stadium.
Both sides started brightly with some neat one touch football but without any end product.
Indeed, over half an hour had elapsed before either keeper was tested, United's Joe McGovern tipping a long range effort from Nicky Low over the bar.
Almost immediately, United threatened for the first time. Trialist Sean Rooney broke down the right to deliver a low cross, but unfortunately there were no takers. McGovern again came to the rescue five minutes from half time, palming a Jamie Masson drive from the edge of the box round the post. However, from the ensuing corner the ball was only cleared to the edge of the box and Peter Pawlett fired the ball into the top left hand corner.
The second half was six minutes old when the young Dons scored a controversial second. Declan McManus clearly pulled Marcus Tortstrand back, but wasn't punished, leaving him a clear run in on goal. He squared the ball to Cammy Smith, whose first effort was blocked by McGovern, but the ball looped up in the air and Smith won the race to knock the ball in. United immediately introduced Jamie Montgomery for Tornstrand and within a minute he fired just wide, but unfortunately was virtually the visitors' sole attempt at goal.
