UNITED U20 0 - 2 HEARTS U20

6th May 2013

In their last home game of the season, a more experienced and physically bigger Tynecastle side proved too strong for the young Tangerines.

Indeed, Euan Spark for Brown at right back was the only change for the side beaten at Hamilton the previous Thursday.

There was little between the sides in the first half with neither keeper really tested.

United produced the first threat when Ali Coote and Scott Fraser exchanged passes before the latter cut the ball back to the trialist striker whose shot was blocked.

However, Hearts went close on three occasions before the break. But in a more expansive second period, Hearts' Marcus McMillan had a shot tipped over in the first minute.

Four minutes later, United's Scott Smith had a good chance, but missed the target with a shot from the edge of the box.

However, two minutes later, Hearts took the lead, Angus Beath heading home a Brad McKay cross.

Nine minutes from time, Denis Prychynenko sealed the visitors' victory driving home a left-foot shot from 10 yards.

And there was more bad news on the home front shortly before end when Brad Smith fell awkwardly and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm.

In stoppage time, United almost got a consolation goal, a header from the substitute trialist being palmed away by visiting keeper Mark Ridgers.

Team: McGovern, Spark, Ballantyne, Lundie, Bell, S Smith, Fraser, Montgomery, B Smith (Casey 85), Coote (Trailist 71), Trialist.
