INVERNESS CT 0 - 0 UNITED

27th February 2013

United had to settle for a share of the spoils tonight at Tulloch Homes Caledonian Stadium as a toughly contested joust between two of the SPL's highest scoring sides ended goalless.

A tense first half told a tale of two teams with mutual respect, locking horns in a close midfield battle, but the bigger story was the early withdrawal of Johnny Russell following a clash with Josh Meekings. Inverness ultimately enjoyed the better chances in the first period, with Aaron Doran and Nick Ross shooting over, however Russell was able to register a chance following a clever one-two with Daly before putting the ball wide.

Substitute Stuart Armstrong saw his effort held by Esson upon the restart, before Daly headed over from a Flood free kick minutes later. Visiting Arabs believed their team had taken the lead when Daly took advantage of a deflection in the 77th minute and poked the ball beyond Ryan Esson, however the Inverness captain was able to turn and collect the ball on the goal line.

Resolute defending from both sides saw the scoresheet remain blank in the latter stages despite a flurry of chances for United and a Richie Foran header held by Cierzniak, leaving both teams with a point.

Man of the Match: Willo Flood. Tenacity and a persistent attention to the tempo of the game kept United's hopes of snatching a winner in this game alive, and at the heart of that was Willo Flood. As well as his great set piece play and short incisive passes, tireless running ensured that there were few blades of grass untouched by the boots of the dynamic Irishman.
