Dundee United today confirmed, subject to international clearance, the signing of Marcus Tornstrand on a short term deal. The 23 year old defender joins the Club until the end of the season.
The 6ft 2' Swedish centre half has signed after impressing Manager Jackie McNamara during a recent trial period. He embarked on his trial after five years with Swedish club Hammerby where he made over 50 appearances. Marcus has played three times for Sweden at Under 21 level.
Manager Jackie McNamara said, "I was keen to bring another defender into the Club and having had a chance to look at Marcus on trial, he has shown me he can add to our squad.
"He has impressed with his aerial ability and looks very assured on the ball and his general fitness is excellent so he is ready to be considered for the first team. I am delighted that Marcus has signed and he can now show me he deserves a longer deal."
Marcus said, "I am really happy. This is an excellent opportunity for myself to play in Scottish football and for a Club of Dundee United's stature. I have signed until the end of the season and look forward to showing in that time that I can help the team here and earn myself a longer deal.
"It feels right to join this Club and this is an important and exciting time of the season and I want to do my best for Dundee United."
