Dundee United tasted defeat for the first time under Jackie McNamara losing 6-2 at Celtic Park. United took the lead through Stuart Armstrong early into the game. However, Celtic responded through Efe Ambrose heading past Cierzniak to make it 1-1. The hosts then took the lead through Kris Commons from 6 yards.
United had a chance to make it 2-2 from the penalty spot. Unfortunately, Jon Daly's spot kick was well saved by Fraser Forster. Captain Joe Ledley made it 3-1 before the break firing home from the edge of the area.
United tried to get back into the game but to no avail as Celtic were in clinical mood with Commons securing a brace scoring from the penalty box after Anthony Stokes was adjudged to have been felled by Barry Douglas. Anthony Stokes would get onto the score sheet also twice to make it 6-1 for Celtic before Johnny Russell went clear on goal and coolly slotted past Forster on 89 minutes to give United a second goal and slight consolation for the travelling Arab support to take up the road with them.
