Dundee United moved quickly to fill the managerial position at Tannadice by naming Jackie McNamara as Manager. Jackie joins the Club on a 3 year deal.
A glittering playing career saw Jackie gain 33 full international caps for Scotland and win multiple Scottish Premier League, Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup medals during a ten year period as a player at Celtic. Jackie also captained the Glasgow club as well as playing for Dunfermline, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aberdeen, Falkirk and Partick Thistle in his 21 years as a professional footballer.
In April 2011 Jackie was appointed Caretaker Manager of Partick Thistle and was subsequently confirmed as Manager a month later. He has earned praise for the style of football of his young, energetic team and has also obtained a reputation for excellent man management skills.
Dundee United Chairman Stephen Thompson said, "It was important that we moved quickly to appoint a new Manager, but it was equally important that we undertook extensive homework to ensure the correct appointment. We have worked on this for some time and after receiving great interest in the position and undertaking a rigorous interview process, it was clear to the Board of Directors that Jackie was the outstanding candidate to take the Club forward in the manner we wish.
"It is with great delight and excitement for the future that I announce his appointment today."
Jackie McNamara said "I am thrilled and proud to be named Manager of Dundee United and believe I have been handed a fantastic opportunity. This is an established Scottish Premier League Club with a fantastic playing squad, infrastructure and youth set up and I cannot wait to start working with the players.
"When I spoke to the Board of Directors, we shared the same vision and belief with regards to how Dundee United should progress. This Club has very strong foundations with the majority of the first team squad under contract beyond this summer and a very strong youth structure in place. I am sure the Dundee United supporters will appreciate how I like to play the game and I look forward to working with everyone connected with the Club to take us forward."
Jackie will be joined at Tannadice by his Assistant Manager Simon Donnelly, who also joins the Club on a three year contract.
