UNDER-20S WIN 2 - 0 AGAINST ROSS COUNTY

18th September 2012

Clydesdale Bank Under-20 Youth League

Dundee United 2 Ross County 0

The Tangerines cruised to victory in yesterday afternoon's Under-20 Youth League game at St Andrews.

Indeed, the two goal winning margin in no way reflected their superiority, the visitors had little answer to the home side's dominance of possession.

Even before United finally took the lead they passed up great chances with Ryan Gauld, Jordan Moore and Dale Hilson all going close.

The goal that threatened finally arrived ten minutes before the break.

Barry Douglas whipped over a cross from the right and John Souttar powered a header against the post with Moore keeping his cool to net the rebound.

Illustrating just how little threat County posed, United keeper Steve Banks made his one and only save of the afternoon shortly after the restart.

And on 50 minutes, United got a deserved second, Hilson confidently netting the penalty award after Archie McPhee had downed Gauld.

Before the end, Gauld, Scott Fraser and Mark Millar had chances to make the scoreline more reflective of the gap between the two sides.

Dundee United: Banks, Robertson, Souttar, Barrett, Douglas, Gauld, Petrie, Millar, Smith, Hilson. Moore (Fraser 39).

Substitutes not used: Anderson, Gilmour, Lundie, Bell, Allan, Lunday.
