Dundee United today announced that defender Keith Watson and midfielder Stuart Armstrong had both agreed contract extensions until May 2015.
Keith signed to a professional form on 23rd December 2006. He made his first team debut on 16th January 2007 against St Mirren and scored his first goal for the club on 7th May 2011 against Motherwell. He was a member of the team who won the Scottish Cup in 2010 and has now played 78 times for the Club and scored four goals including strikes against European opposition in the Club's last two campaigns.
Stuart, who signed for United in September 2009 at the age of 17 made his United first team debut on 6th November 2010 as a substitute against Hamilton Academical and scored his first goal for the Club on 10th December 2011 against Inverness CT. He has now played 47 times for the Club and has scored two goals. Stuart has also played nine times for the Scotland Under-21s and scored two goals.
Manager Peter Houston said, "Both players fully merit these extensions. Keith has been part of the first team squad for a few years now and this season has progressed even further. He knows he has still to learn and develop parts of his game and it is great that he wants to continue that development here at Tannadice. "
He added, "Stuart has shown already this season that he can play a large part in our team and make an impact in games. He is an exciting player that brings additional pace and skill into our team. He still has some parts of his game to refine and I am delighted that he sees Dundee United as the best place to do so.
"Both these lads have developed within the youth team under the guidance of Steve Campbell and have continued to show that progress through exposure to the first team squad. It again highlights how young players get a chance at Tannadice and also features the excellent foundation players are receiving from the Club's youth academy."
Keith Watson said, "I am delighted to sign this extension to my contract. It was an easy choice to continue playing here at Tannadice and carry on my football education here. The coaching staff are helping me develop as a footballer and being told they wanted me here for the next few years is a massive boost personally. It is a great Club with great fans and I know I will further improve as a player here. "
Stuart Armstrong said: "I am so happy to have this extension agreed. This season is a big season for me and I have already been involved in all of our games so far. I have goals that I want to achieve this season and beyond and signing this contract ensures I can focus on continuing my progress. Tannadice is a great place to play football and knowing my future is secure means I can concentrate on fulfilling my goals on the park."
