It might not have been a great night for the Scotland Under-21s at Easter Road last night as Scotland went down 4-1 to Italy, but there were positives for the three Tangerines in the squad.
All got some game time and the Scots goal was an all-Tannadice affair.
Trailing to Alessandro Florenzi's early headed goal, excellent work by Johnny Russell operating on the right flank brought the leveller after 33 minutes.
He raced down the wing and squared the ball to United team mate Gary Mackay-Steven who coolly steered the ball home.
Indeed, the performances of both against the classy Italians was the biggest plus point of the evening.
Earlier, Gary was desperately unlucky to see a thumping shot clatter off the base of the post.
Shortly before the break, Johnny forced keeper Simone Colombi into a save and that was the striker's last taste of the action before being replaced by Dylan McGeouch at the interval.
With the a raft of substitutions and the Italians taking control in the second half opportunities to shine were limited for Gary and he made way to Tannadice colleague Stuart Armstrong with quarter of an hour to go.
Unfortunately, Stuart had little time to make an impact as the Scots continued on the back foot.
Incidentally, the introduction of Chelsea forward Islam Feruz, aged 16 years and 197 days, became Scotland's youngest under-21 international - a record previously held by United's Christian Dailly.
Next up for the Under-21's, and hopefully, United's trio, is next month's European Championships qualification clash in Bulgaria at the Lovech Stadion, Lovech on 31 May.
