Although it was courtesy of Ryan Dow scoring the only goal of the game, this was a far more comfortable win than the scoreline suggests.
Coach Stevie Campbell was more than happy with how his youngsters performed as well as with the inclusion of over-age players Stevie Banks, Danny Swanson and Ryan Dow.
Said Stevie, "It was great for Ryan to get a game and a goal and for the defence to have an experienced keeper like Stevie behind them.
"In the last round at Arbroath, Stuart Armstrong and Sean Dillon used that game as a stepping stone to a first team return and hopefully the same thing will happen to the three involved last night."
The goal that earned United a place in the final against either Montrose or Brechin or St Johnstone came after quarter of an hour.
Scott Smith's corner from the left was headed on at the near post by Robert Thomson whose head flick on was headed home by Ryan Dow at the far post.
But had it not been for the heroics of Forfar keeper Anton Mordente, the margin of victory would have been far greater, because he had four outstanding saves in the second half.
Another bonus was playing under lights. As Stevie Campbell pointed out: "Almost all our games are in daylight, but with the Youth Cup semi against Queen of the South coming up in a couple of weeks, it was good for the lads to get a taste of playing in a floodlit match."
