Dundee United have appointed a club chaplain in Andy Burns. A native of Ireland who has resided in Dundee for twenty years, Andy is currently a chaplain working within the nightclubs in Dundee and joins up at Tannadice to offer a chaplain service to all staff, on and off the pitch.
Chaplaincy services are very popular within sporting organisations nationally and in appointing their own club chaplain, Dundee United hope to establish another dimension to the strong relationship which exists between the Club's employees at all levels.
Operations Director Gibby Haggart said: "Chaplaincy brings a personal touch to the support service within the club. Football clubs can be a pressurised environment and Andy will provide an independent ear. He will be on hand to give good, confidential advice on any range of matters. He will be available to offer support, befriend employees and help keep a sense of perspective in what is a high intensity profession."
Chaplain Andy Burns said: "I was delighted to accept the offer to become Dundee United's Club chaplain. It will be a steep learning curve for everyone but I'm sure it's going to be fun and I'm really looking forward to it all.
"I want to be around the Club, get involved, become a friendly face and give people support in every possible way. I see my role as being a listening ear and a caring heart who is always available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for players and other staff should they feel the need to talk."
