Both team's had barely settled into the game when a long ball over the top of the United defence was controlled beautifully by Marius Onofras, who then blasted the ball past the helpless Steve Banks in the United goal. It was a young United team who started the game with summer signing Barry Douglas starting at left back.
United's best opportunities of the first half came through a David Goodwillie lob which was ruled off for offside and a Jon Daly header from a lovely Keith Watson cross just before half time.
Both teams made multiple changes at half time and United showed up better with Craig Conway in particular looking very sharp on the left hand wing. Despite coming more into the game in the second half, the best opportunity came through a Paul Dixon 23 yard effort from a free kick which the FC Unirea keeper held at his near post. New signing Filip Mentel showed up very well in goal during his 45 minutes on the park.
At the end of the game Manager Peter Houston said it was 'a very worthwhile exercise against a vastly experienced team.'
