In a hard fought encounter against a well-organised Paisley side, an under strength U19s had to come from behind to earn a draw at St Andrews on Friday afternoon.
Taking everything into account, that was probably a pretty fair reflection of proceedings in a game where neither keeper was often tested.
The hosts got off to the better start and top scorer Dale Hilson headed just over after ten minutes.
But the Paisley side, coming into the game more and more, took the lead midway through the opening period, Kyle Faulds scoring with a near post header from a corner.
But United were back level after 65 minutes when Stuart Armstrong collected a long throw to steer the ball home.
Either side might have won it thereafter, but the Tannadice side went closest, a Michael Lee shot on the turn being palmed round the post by Saints keeper in the final minute.
