At St Andrews this afternoon, United faced a strong, physical Falkirk side in a re-arranged SPL Youth match. After two high scoring wins in their previous outings, this was a disappointing defeat.
Playing with the slope in the first half the young Tangerines had chances with Dow, Stokes and Hilson all coming close but when the first goal came it was from the spot for the visitors with ten minutes of the half remaining. Hindley came close to pulling off the save but the kick was well taken and nestled in the bottom left corner of the net. Just before half time, the visitors went two up.
After the interval, United had chances to get back into the match but most of the action took place in the United half and with an hour played the match was put more or less beyond United as Falkirk rifled in a third. United tried to get back into the game but the visitors' defence was solid and gave little away.
Line up:- Hindley, Irvine, Mosson, Lee, Smith, Stokes (Shaw), Scott (Murray), Allan, Thomson, Hilson, Dow.
