ABERDEEN 0 - 2 UNITED

24th October 2009

First half goals from Damian Casalinuovo and a rare Morgaro Gomis strike gave United a deserved 2-0 win over Aberdeen at a cold and wet Pittodrie this afternoon.

Aberdeen could have been a goal up inside the first minute when a long Jamie Langfield clearance was misjudged by the United defence. That left sixteen-year-old Fraser Fyvie one on one with the United 'keeper, but the youngster shot wide of goal.

After Danny Cadamarteri had hit the post, Lee Miller also missed a gilt-edged chance for Aberdeen midway through the first half, shooting wide from five yards out before United opened the scoring.

Mark Fotheringham's left wing inswinging corner was met inside the six-yard box by Damian Casalinuovo who knocked the ball into the net despite Richard Foster's despairing attempt to clear off the line.

The lead was doubled five minutes later through a collectors' item; a Morgaro Gomis goal. Garry Kenneth's cross was half cleared, and the loose ball was met superbly with a measured side footed effort into the bottom corner, which left Langfield with no chance.

United defended resolutely in the second half and saw out the victory comfortably with Nicky Weaver dealing well with some awkward balls into the box in appalling weather conditions.

Man of the Match: Prince Buaben slotted back into the starting eleven and looked like he'd never been away. He dominated the midfield, with composure and vision being demonstrated in his play. Whilst he didn't do anything spectacular or match winning, he was constantly solid and most of United's play went through him.
