The Tannadice teenagers turned on their best performance of the season in mauling Motherwell 6-3 at St Andrews.
Dale Hilson was the hero netting four times.
He started the rout after only two minutes, clipping the ball over the advancing keeper after good work by Michael Lee and Ryan Dow.
Although Motherwell hit back to level with a fantastic curling shot into the top corner four minutes later, United soon regained the lead through Dow after Hilson put him through.
Completely in control, it was no surprise when the Tangerines increased their lead after 25 minutes when Hilson raced clear to score with a shot from the edge of the box.
Seven minutes from the interval, Stuart Armstrong scored in almost identical fashion to make it four
There was blow for United when Ross Smith was sent off on the stroke of half time following an altercation with an opponent as Motherwell were awarded a penalty.
However, Bryn Hindley pulled off a wonderful save to keep his side's three-goal advantage.
Despite being a man down, United went ahead again when Hilson knocked in his third from a Grant Mosson cross after 65 minutes.
Motherwell did reduce the leeway with 15 minutes left, but that man Hilson chipped in the sixth six minutes later.
Motherwell may have socred a third following a corner near the end, but that couldn't detract from what was the home side's best performance of the season.
