RESERVES LOSE TO HIBS

6th April 2009

In the end, the Tangerines' very young side were no match for a strong Easter Road side. Not only did the United side include nine of the Youth team, but six of them qualify to play at Under-17 level.

But for an hour, the Tannadice youngsters held their much more experienced opponents, and despite then losing three goals, gave a very good account of themselves.

Although Kris Irvine had to clear a visitors' effort off the line after fifteen minutes and keeper Michael McGovern made a couple of excellent stops, it was far from one way traffic with Ryan Dow and Ryan McCord both going close before the break.

Hibs finally made the breakthrough on the hour mark when Steven Pinau waltzed past two defenders before netting.

Undeterred, plucky United almost equalised with Ross Smith heading just past.

However, the visitors increased their lead with a terrific individual goal from Jordan Cropley with fifteen minutes left.

A sweet move which saw Ross McCord bring out a fine save from the visiting keeper almost reduce the leeway with what was the home side's best effort.

Late on, Ross Campbell netted after the ball rebounded off the post and the goals was allowed to stand despite more than a hint of a suspicion that he was offside to complete the scoring.
