RESERVES UNLUCKY TO LOSE TO HAMILTON

14th April 2009

The Tannadice youngsters were slightly unlucky to wind up their home programme at Station Park on a losing note.

Over the piece there was little to choose between the two sides.

Play in the first half was at such a frantic pace that chances for either side were almost non-existent.

However, both sides settled down after the break and Gavin Stokes almost gave United the lead with a header from a Michael Lee cross five minutes after the restart.

But Accies retorted with Michael McGovern twice closing down dangerous situations with blocks at strikers' feet.

And 20 minutes from the end, the visiting keeper similarly denied Ryan Dow.

United were forced to substitute their keeper five minutes later; Michael McGovern requiring stitches after an accidental collision.

Connor Grant took over and his first call to action was picking the ball out of the net five minutes later after Chris Fagan netted a cut-back from close-range.

Almost immediately, United went close to equalising, Ross McCord sending a dipping volley inches over, and despite pressing to the end the Tangerines finished empty-handed.

Dundee United: McGovern (Grant 75), Lee, R Smith, Shaw, Irvine, Ryan McCord, Ross McCord, Stokes, Dow, Murray, Hilson (L Swanson 30). Subs not used: Burns, K Smith.
