UNDER-19S LOSE 0 - 2 TO HEARTS

14th March 2009

As a learning curve for the young footballers, the gale-force wind rendered Saturday morning's clash an academic exercise.

The fact that the game took place on an exposed outside pitch made conditions even more farcical and as a result, there wasn't much football and even less by way of goalmouth incident.

And even with the handicap of playing with ten men for almost 70 minutes, the hosts still managed to emerge winners thanks to goals either side of the interval.

That said, the Tannadice squad was down to the bare bones with Kris Irvine and Gavin Stokes coming off their sick beds to turn out.

Indeed, it was Stokes who came closest to scoring for the young Tangerines, firing just over in the second half.

Dundee United: Grant, Irvine, Lee, Shaw, White, L Swanson, Ross McCord, Stokes, Dow, Hilson (Leitch 61), Murray (K Smith 79). Subs not used: Hindley, Traynoe, Burns.
