RESERVES BEAT FALKIRK 2 - 1

17th March 2009

David Goodwillie was the Tangerines match-winner at Station Park yesterday afternoon, getting both goals in a deserved victory.

That said, it was the visitors who made the brighter start, forcing home keeper Michael McGovern into making three saves before United's young side settled.

Indeed, David Goodwillie had gone close on a couple of occasions before finally putting his side ahead after 34 minutes.

Latching on to a fine threaded through ball from Ryan McCord, he fired across the keeper and into the far corner from 16-yards.

After a scrappy start to the seconds half, Falkirk increasingly threatened and levelled in spectacular fashion on the hour mark.

A Keith Watson clearance from a corner fell to Dayne Robertson and he thumped a tremendous 25-yard strike into the top corner for a deserved equaliser.

However, with fifteen minutes left, persistence paid off for Goodwillie when he chased down a passback and though keeper Robert Olejnik got to it first his clearance cannoned off the United striker into the net.

Finishing strongly, the Tannadice side could quite easily scored two or three more in the closing stages.
