The club today confirmed that Jon Daly had signed a three year contract extension, securing him to the Club until May 2012.
The 25 year old striker joined Dundee United in January 2007 as one of Manager Craig Levein's first signings and quickly established himself as a first team regular, until injuries forced him to miss the end of that season and most of the following one. The player returned to first team duty with a hat trick against Cowdenbeath in this season's Co-operative Insurance Cup and has again become a regular first team choice, scoring eight goals so far this season.
Manager Craig Levein said, "Jon is the type of player all clubs need. He provides a big strong physical presence up front, as a target man to play in others, but also provides a definite goal threat. He's been very unfortunate with injuries in his time here, but these problems are now behind him and he's benefited from a run of games in the first team. I like his approach to the job and his contribution to the team and I'm sure he'll also add to his goals tally during the rest of the season. Jon is an important player for Dundee United, with his best yet to come and I'm therefore delighted to tie him up for a further three years."
Jon Daly added, "I'm delighted to have my immediate future secured and that it is with Dundee United. I enjoy working here and have made many good friends. The Manager and coaching staff - and supporters - have been terrific to me, showing both patience and understanding while I recovered from injury. The Manager in particular also kept faith in me and I'm happy to remain with a club that has helped me through a difficult time and a club which, I feel, has an exciting future. As a family, we're also very settled in the Dundee area, so I'm really pleased that we'll be here for another three and a half years."
