RESERVES DRAW 1 -1 WITH RANGERS

29th October 2008

Missed chances cost United a possible win over a Rangers side reduced to ten men after the first minute of play. Rory Loy scored for the visitors on 21 minutes and Prince Buaben equalised on the half hour mark.

The Tannadice second string were left rueing a string of missed opportunities at Murray Park this afternoon.

Even more galling was that after they failed to get the better of an Ibrox side that played all bar the opening 45 seconds with ten men.

Former United defender Christian Dailly's dismissal followed holding back Danny Swanson just inside the box, though it seemed harsh to adjudge it as denying a goalscoring opportunity with Lee McCulloch in such close proximity.

However, United failed to capitalise as Danny Swanson hammered the resultant penalty way over the bar.

Instead, ten man Rangers, who had Barry Ferguson completing his first ninety since last May, took the lead after 21 minutes when Aaron's cross from the left was headed home by Rory Loy at the front post.

That lead lasted just nine minutes with Danny Swanson's through ball finding Prince Buaben in the box and he slipped it under the advancing Alexander.

The visitors almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when Danny Grainger crossed for David Goodwillie, but his header went just wide of the post.

Thereafter, chances were few and far between, but the better ones fell to the Tangerines.

Twenty minutes from the end, Andis Shala headed over an empty net from a Goodwillie chip.

Then in the very last minute, Goodwillie side-footed a Swanson cross off the post and Buaben blazed the ball over the gaping goal.
