Although the Tannadice youngsters lost out to their Parkhead counterparts at North End on Saturday afternoon, there were plenty of positives to be taken from the encounter.
Firstly, the Tangerines had no less than six Under-17's in their squad and were unlucky to end up losing.
Whilst Celtic territorially ruled the roost, on chances there was nothing in it.
Indeed, in the first period, United definitely had the better of these.
Ryan Dow went close and Jordan Elfverson even closer, hitting the post with a header with Gavin Stokes not far away with a couple of efforts.
But it looked bleak for the home side when Celtic were awarded a soft penalty early in the second half.
However, justice was done when keeper Bryn Hindley saved the kick.
Unfortunately, Hindley was beaten eight minutes after the restart by a shot from the edge of the box.
That lead was relatively short-lived because ten minutes later, Ryan Dow latched on to Ross McCord's through ball to slide home an equaliser.
But ten minutes from time, Celtic regained the lead in fortuitous fashion when a free-kick was deflected past his own keeper by Michael Lee.
And that was harsh justice on the Tannadice teenagers, particularly as Ross McCord struck the post from a free-kick late on.
