UNITED UNDER-19S WIN 4 - 2 AGAINST 'WELL

30th August 2008

Having twice come from behind, the Tannadice teenagers came back impressively to post their first three points of the season at Hannah Park on Saturday.

For that they owe keeper Brynn Hindley an enormous debt of gratitude.

Having fallen behind after only two minutes, but for the keeper pulling off two terrific saves, they might easily found themselves three down after only ten minutes.

However, they responded well and a minute later Ryan Dow levelled after latching on to Scott Allan's through ball and drilling the ball low into the bottom left-hans corner from edge of the box.

From then until the interval, it was end-to-end stuff with Motherwell gaining the advantage again when scoring with a header after forty minutes.

Once again, United showed great resilience, equalising with a well-worked goal on the hour mark.

Again it involved Allan and Dow with the latter's cross cum shot deflecting off the header of a defender for a goal the striker is claiming.

Shell-shocked Motherwell found themselves trailing a minute later.

Superb work by Jordan Elfverson and Kenny Smith paved the way for Smith to cut the ball back for Gavin Stokes to score via a post.

Not that Motherwell lay down and Hindley once more came to the rescue with a wonderful finger-tip save.

However, four minutes from the end, the game was put beyond the Fir Parkers when Dale Hilson fed Kenny Smith and Dow was on hand to finish off the move and complete his hat-trick.

Dundee United: Hindley, Irvine, R Smith, Lee, Shaw, Allan, Reoch, Stokes (Murray 85), K Smith (Hilson 82), Dow, Elfverson. Subs not used; L Swanson, Colgan, McCallum.
