DUNDEE UNITED SIGN SCOTT ROBERTSON

3rd June 2008

Dundee United today announced the signing of Scott Robertson. The highly rated 23 year old midfielder today signed a three year deal after the player became available under freedom of contract.

Scott Robertson was previously with Dundee FC and captained the club last season. He has a reputation for being a driving force in midfield, with a keen eye for goal. Last year he played 34 first team games and scored 8 goals.

Manager Craig Levein said, "I am delighted to announce Scott as my first new signing for next season. He is a player I've admired for some time and will add further strength to the important midfield area of the team. He is a very direct player who likes to get in the opposition box whenever possible and I believe he will help us strengthen our goal threat from open play."

"My attention was first drawn to Scott when he was playing in the Dundee youth team against Hearts. A while later I tried to sign him and I had another go when I was down in England, but nothing came of it," he said.

"In the end it's taken five or six years, but it will be worth it because we are getting another talented player whose best years are ahead of him and who has the ambition and hunger to be a success."

Robertson had also attracted firm interest from other SPL clubs and several in the English Championship, so the Gaffer is viewing his arrival as a major coup.

"It's a compliment to the players already here that Scott's looked at what they've done last season and seen something that is going to continue to improve and is worth being part of.

"I am aware of the strong interest there was in him, so it's nice to know we've got him and that's what matters to me."

Scott Robertson said, "I'm delighted to be joining Dundee United FC and to be playing in the SPL next season. I'm looking forward to working under Craig Levein, who has a reputation for improving players and who convinced me that I was making the right choice in furthering my development under him.
"I wish to express my gratitude to the staff and fans of Dundee FC for all their support over the years."
