The East Stand at Tannadice was today formally re-named the Eddie Thompson Stand as a permanent tribute to the Club Chairman.
The decision to re-name the stand was made by the Directors following the receipt of many suggestions sent in to the Club and subsequent consultation with supporters' representatives.
Chief Executive Stephen Thompson said, "The last few weeks and months have been an emotional time for Dundee United supporters and both the Club and my family received countless messages of goodwill during this period. Many of these suggested that we mark my father's contribution to Dundee United in a permanent manner, with the most popular of these being to name a stand in his honour.
"Although my father was reluctant at first, I am delighted that he agreed to this recognition which I know will make him very proud."
Angus Falconer, Chairperson of the Federation of Dundee United Supporters' Clubs added, "As Chairperson of the Federation of Supporters' Clubs I am absolutely delighted that this tribute should be made to the Chairman. His emotional, financial and physical contribution to our Club is recognised by every Dundee United supporter and the depth of these feelings was demonstrated for everyone to see at Hampden on Sunday.
"The history of Dundee United is engrained with the names of wonderful servants to the Dundee United cause and this most fitting tribute ensures that Eddie Thompson's name will not only be a permanent part of our history, but also of the very brickwork of Tannadice itself."
