Strathclyde Police is appealing to the public and the media after a 72 year-old man, Alex Moore from Cumbernauld, was apparently struck by a motor vehicle last night, Sunday 16 March 2008, on the B8048, near to Balloch holdings, Cumbernauld.
Around 2000 hours last night, Sunday 16 March 2008, emergency services attended the report of Alex having been found injured on the westbound carriageway of the B8048, near to Balloch holdings, Cumbernauld.
Alex was taken by ambulance to Monklands District Hospital where he is detained in a critical condition.
Police enquiries into the incident have revealed that Mr Moore is believed to have been returning home from Sunday's CIS Cup Final between Rangers and Dundee United at Glasgow's Hampden Park.
Alex who was a member of South Carbrain Rangers supporters club, Cumbernauld, is thought to have missed his coach after the game. It is believed that he then boarded another supporter's bus in the Hampden area which may have dropped him off in the Cumbernauld area.
Inspector Gerry Boyd of the Road Policing Department at Motherwell Police Office said today:-
"Our enquiries into this incident have now revealed that Mr Moore was returning from the football match at Hampden yesterday afternoon. It appears that Alex missed his own supporter's bus and as such has possibly boarded another supporter's bus to travel home to the Cumbernauld area.
"I would ask any members of either the Rangers or Dundee United supporters buses who recall Alex boarding their bus yesterday to contact me at Motherwell Police Office on 01698 483126."
