RESERVES LOSE 2-1 TO ST MIRREN

24th March 2008

In conditions made very difficult by a blustery wind, the Paisley side came from behind to snatch victory at Station Park, Forfar yesterday afternoon.

But after gifting the Tangerines the lead early in the second half, the home side returned the favour twice over because both Saints' goals emanated from their errors.

Apart from Danny Swanson hitting the post after fifteen minutes, a first half goal never appeared on the cards.

The first goal came seven minutes into the second period.

Craig Conway's header from a Danny Grainger cross was benevolently headed straight back to him by Mark McAusland, leaving the winger with a simple task to knock the bal home from close range.

Darren Dods was only inches away from making it two on the hour mark, just failing to get enough contact on a Grainger free-kick when right in front of goal.

And two minutes later, United paid for that miss as Saints levelled with their first real chance of the game.

Sean Kean was gifted possession and he slipped the ball through to former United winger Stephen O'Donnell who drilled the ball low into the far corner.

Although it was United who continued to make most of the running, they were hit by a sucker punch fifteen minutes later with a goal remarkably similar to their first.

This time O'Donnell was the provider after carelessness in the home ranks gave the ball away and Mark Corcoran's low drive just beat John Gibson who did well to get a hand to the ball.
