A Jonny Russell goal earned the Tannadice teenagers a thoroughly deserved win in an exciting fourth round contest at the Dingwall Academy yesterday afternoon.
The decisive goal came ten minutes from the break, when Russell headed home Sean Fleming's in-swinging free-kick in at the back post.
But the single goal victory didn't do the visitors' excellent performance justice.
For 75 minutes, United were well on top and the home side had keeper Andy McNulty to thank for keeping them in contention, making three great saves to deny Ross McCord twice as well as Jonny Russell.
Additionally, United had two stone-wall penalty claims rejected.
In the first half, Ryan Dow rounded the keeper and Jamie Duff kept the ball out with his hands.
Then after the break, Russell, having been released by Scott Allan was chopped down and just as he was about to roll ball into net.
ICT couldn't cope with the strong running of Dow and Russell, which was ably assisted by the creativity of Anderson, McCord and Allan in the middle of the park
That said, the home side had a penalty appeal denied as they came into the game for the first time in the last fifteen minutes.
Indeed, only two fine saves late on by keeper John Gibson prevented the home side taking the tie into extra-time.
In the end they didn't and United are now away to Hamilton Accies in the quarter-finals.
