Motherwell had gone ahead on 57 minutes through a well-taken Stephen McGuire goal which no keeper could do anything about.
The match, played at Station Park, Forfar, marked the competitive debut of both Polish keeper Lukasz Zaluska and Swiss centre back Mihael Kovacevic.
Both came well through the match and whilst Zaluska had little to do in the way of goalmouth action, Mihael produced some impressive touches.
