Dundee United today confirmed that 20 year old Danny Swanson of Berwick Rangers will join the Club with effect from 1 January 2008, on a three and a half year contract until the end of May 2011.
An undisclosed transfer fee has been agreed with Berwick Rangers and the player has signed a pre contract arrangement, having completed a medical and other formalities.
Although Swanson will not join up at Tannadice until the opening of the next transfer window, it has been agreed that until then he will train part time with Dundee United, whilst continuing to play for Berwick Rangers.
The former Leith Athletic Juveniles player, who can play in attack as well as midfield, has attracted attention from a number of SPL clubs. First Division leaders Hamilton Accies attempted to sign him at the end of August after agreeing a fee with Berwick, but the player elected not to move at that time.
Manager Craig Levein said, "Danny is a very talented and skilful player, but is still young and developing his game. He is another player I've signed for the future, rather than the immediate term, in the same way as Morgaro Gomis and Prince Buaben. They are all players I can look to build a team around in the years ahead, but if Danny makes the same progress that Morgaro and Prince have made, he may well feature in the first team sooner rather than later."
