UNDER-19s DRAW AGAINST CELTIC

29th September 2007

The young Tangerines put on their best performance of the season so far and were desperately unlucky not to win at Barrowfield on Saturday morning.

Only a late and hotly disputed penalty got Celtic out of jail and prevent United from chalking up a deserved victory.

When Celtic went in front through Craig Connell seven minutes from the interval, it was very much against the run of play, because prior to that the Tannadice side had dominated.

Ross McCord had blasted a really good chance over the bar after great leading up work by David Brophy and Gordon Pope's long-range free-kick from was only just palmed over the bar by home Paul Skinner.

However, on the hour mark, Ross McCord drilled home from 22 yards from a Jordan Love lay off to equalise.

After Jordon Love then clipped the post with a diving header, Scott Paterson headed United in front on 69 minutes after a mazy dribble and cross by Ross McCord.

Six minutes from time, the linesman drew the referee's attention to an incident in the United box with the ball 50 yards away. That culminated in Scott Paterson being sent off after an altercation with Celtic's Paul Cahillane and from the resultant and unexpected penalty, Kevin Cawley converted a lucky leveller.
