Two tremendous finishes by Jordon Love enabled the Under 19 side to edge out St Mirren at Glenesk Park on Saturday. However, they shouldn't have had to rely on Love's second six minutes from time to secure victory.
The Tannadice teenagers had enough chances in the first half to wrap the game up, missing a series of good chances, which included hitting the woodwork twice.
Their deserved opener came just two minutes from the break when Ryan McCord playing the ball through to Love who turned to cleverly loft the ball home from 22 yards past the stranded keeper.
At the start of the second half Saints were the stronger side and it was no surprise when they levelled after 63 minutes.
United keeper John Gibson failed to hold a 20-yard drive drilled in by Andy Stirling and Ally Love angled home the rebound from eight yards.
But the home side picked up the pace of the game again and were duly rewarded with Jordan Love's second sublime strike sealing victory.
His instant control of a Sean Anderson pass gave him the space to coolly steer the ball home from twelve yards.
