Although it took two brilliant second half saves from Tannadice keeper John Gibson to deny the home side, the teenage Tangerines were more than worth their point in their Saturday lunchtime date at the Dingwall Academy complex.
The fact is that is was very much a game of two halves and United with the wind at their backs could easily have had the game won by the break.
Well on top, they had a flurry of chances, and did everything but score with Jordan Love going very close on a couple of occasions.
Facing the elements meant it was a different story in the second half with Dale Gillespie hitting the bar for Caley Thistle who also had a decent penalty shout rejected.
But United too had their chances in that second half. Scott Paterson was denied by a great save and sub Kenny Smith blazed over from five yards.
However, with Gibson twice coming to the rescue late on for the visitors, a draw was a fair reflection of the play.
Dundee United: Gibson, Milligan, Fleming, McGrath, Pope (Travers 89), Trialist, Paterson, Mathieson, Love (Elfverston 70), Brophy, Colgan (Smith 75). Sub not used: Lee.
