ABIDAL – I WILL LEARN FROM TANNADICE GAME

24th July 2007

Eric Abidal today explained how he will be using Barcelona’s friendly against Dundee United at Tannadice this week to assist with France’s bid to qualify for next season’s European Championships. Barça’s summer signing from Lyon is still frustrated over France’s defeat at Hampden last year, and is already thinking about his country’s game in Paris against Scotland. Dundee United Media today asked the French international left back whether he expected the tempo of Thursday evening’s match to be similar to the Hampden game. Abidal replied, “Not all teams from the same country play in the same manner. However, most Scottish teams have the same mentality, and have their own qualities. For me, the most important thing will be to learn from this game.” Speaking at today’s Barcelona press conference, Abidal also explained that he is looking forward to the Paris clash against Alex McLeish’s side. “The game in Paris provides us with a chance for revenge. France should be able to win this game and qualify for the Championships, but it is always difficult to play against Scottish sides. I am impressed with their defensive qualities.” The French international is settling in well at the Catalan club, and insists that the presence of a compatriot at the Camp Nou was not the only reason for his decision to make the summer move. “I am happy to be at Barcelona. Not just happy to be in the same team as Henry, but simply to be in a great team with great players.” As well as looking to participate in the Barcelona side this Thursday, Abidal is already thinking of ways to prepare ahead of the Paris clash. “You need to be combative against Scottish sides. I will learn from this game [against Dundee United], and will pass on my experiences this week to my France colleagues.” ArabZONE Members will be able to watch this interview later on tonight.
