DECO – GALACTICOS COMPARISON UNFOUNDED
24th July 2007
Portuguese international Deco today refuted claims from Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas that Barcelona’s new “fantastic four” attacking line represent a throwback to the ‘Galactico’s’ period at the Madrid club.
Spanish international Casillas commented this week that Barcelona’s current squad reminded him of Real’s squad of four years ago; in that they had a number of good individual players, but he doubted that they would gel as a team.
When Deco heard the thoughts of the Madrid goalkeeper, he instantly refuted the idea. “I don’t agree with Casillas. We have good players, and it is the job of the coach to teach us to play together. I am sure that he will do that, and that we will be successful.”
Looking ahead to Thursday’s friendly at Tannadice, Dundee United media asked the midfielder what he expected from the game.
“It is our first match of pre-season, so it is too early to take any conclusions from it. For me, this game is more about getting more energy and strength into the players ahead of the new season.”
There has been speculation over the summer linking Deco with a move away from the Camp Nou, but the player himself is happy where he is. “I have a contract with Barcelona, and I am very happy here. When Barcelona tell me they no longer want me, then I will move, but until that happens, all I want is to do my job.”
“This is the most important thing in my life, after my children. To do well, to win and to win as many trophies as possible.”
