FC BARCELONA CONFIRMED FOR TANNADICE

3rd May 2007

It was today confirmed by PLATINUM ONE, the sports management and conference business, that reigning UEFA Champions League winners FC Barcelona will play Dundee United at Tannadice on 26 July.

The two sides have met four times previously in European competition, with the Tannadice side winning all four games. The fixture comes twenty years after the last time the two teams met in 1987 when United defeated the Spanish giants to reach the final of the UEFA Cup. This re-match will not only be anticipated with great excitement by United fans, but will also be seen as a fitting way to mark the 20th anniversary of that great achievement.

The agreement between PLATINUM ONE and FC Barcelona binds the club to bring the full first team squad and to play its senior players in the game.

Eddie Thompson, Dundee United chairman, said "I am delighted to confirm that, after detailed discussions, FC Barcelona will be coming to play Dundee United at Tannadice on July 26.

Dundee United have quite a connection with Barcelona, having played them four times in European competition and winning all four ties. I was fortunate enough (and old enough) to have seen Barcelona against United in the Inter Cities Fair Cup in season 1966/67 and its successor, the UEFA Cup, in 1987. This victory led to Dundee United going on to reach the final of the UEFA Cup that year.

"This is a dream fixture therefore, just ten days ahead of the start of the new domestic season. We are delighted to be in a position to bring some of the world's greatest players to Tannadice for what should be a night to remember for all our fans and indeed for our players."

With demand for tickets expected to be high, the Club will operate a priority arrangement for regular supporters, with the agreement of PLATINUM ONE. All supporters attending this Saturday's match against St Mirren will receive a voucher entitling them to priority status when tickets go on sale initially. Priority status will also be afforded to Early Bird season ticket purchasers. Ticket arrangements and kick off details will be announced in early course, but it should be noted that priority status will apply for a restricted period only.

PLATINUM ONE has contracted with FC Barcelona to bring the Catalan club to Scotland for the second week of its 2007/08 pre-season. The company that has offices in Edinburgh, Barcelona and Dublin has signed a deal that will see the full Barcelona first team squad conduct a week of its pre-season schedule in Scotland from July 23rd to 28th. Barcelona will be based at the Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews and will use the adjoining training facilities at St. Andrews University.

Announcing the agreement, Fintan Drury, Chairman of PLATINUM ONE said that discussions on the initiative had commenced last October and the company was excited about bringing one of the world's great clubs to Scotland. "A year ago we explored with Barcelona the potential to bring them to Scotland in the summer of 2006 but we could not conclude arrangements in time. Barcelona were though very attracted by what Scotland has to offer and we began discussions again last autumn and we are delighted that this time everything has been satisfactorily concluded."

Speaking on behalf of FC Barcelona, Director of Football, Xiqui Begueristain, said the club was greatly impressed by what Scotland had to offer and looked forward to a very successful week. "At St. Andrews we have found the ideal training environment. The North of Europe is ideal for pre/season training because the temperature is not so high there. Furthermore Scotland has always had a passion for football. These two factors coupled with the facilities at St. Andrews means that we have found the ideal environment for our pre/season training camp which is one of the most important events of the year for our team."

"We have chosen two very good rivals to fit our progressive preparation and we look forward to playing in front of the wonderful, world renowned Scottish football fans"

Fintan Drury, the Chairman of PLATINUM ONE, said he wanted to thank Dundee United for their co-operation. "We have been involved in professional sport since 1991 and established an office in Scotland 18 months ago. We did so because we believed this country had a considerable amount to offer to the international market in both areas of our business. Our experience in establishing this programme, on behalf of one of the biggest football clubs in the world, has reinforced that view. We hope the people of Dundee will be excited about having Barcelona in town again!"

The broadcast rights for the two matches in Scotland have been contracted to Setanta and the Dundee United match will be broadcast live and exclusively on Setanta Sports in Britain and Ireland. It will also be broadcast in Spain.
