To say the least, this was not one of the Reserves' better performances. In fact, it will probably go down as the worst of the season.
That was particularly true of a lamentable first half in which not a chance of note was created and two goals were lost from set pieces.
The fact that Motherwell keeper Steven Coutts, who was drafted in after Colin Meldrum was hurt in the warm-up, wasn't remotely tested is proof of how little threat we posed.
The visitors took the lead after twelve minutes when Paul Quinn headed down a Kevin McBride free-kick and Steven McGarry stooped to head home at the far post.
The second, two minutes from the break, was similar in its build up with Paul Keegan heading down a free kick from Mark Sideserf, but this time Willie Kinniburgh rammed the ball home from fifteen yards.
United could only improve in the second half and did, creating one or two chances, but it was still a very disappointing display compared to the high standards on offer in most of the other games this season.
However, the closest they came was with a 30-yard free-kick from Morgaro Gomis's free-kick that was destined for the top right-hand corner until Coutts palmed it up and over the bar!
