United's Reserves were quick to gain control of their match against Rangers at Broadwood Stadium, with Garry Kenneth rising above the home defence to head home a Barry Callaghan corner in the 8th minute.
Greg Cameron was unlucky not to add to the score after 22 minutes when his powerful shot from the edge of the box was deflected past the post but he then set up Barry Callaghan, just back from his loan spell at Queen of the South, to net with a spectacular 20 yard drive in the 35th. minute.
Morgaro Gomis also came close before the interval to end a first period which United had dominated for much of the time.
After the break, Steven Robb was replaced by William Easton and the visitors continued to have most of the play though Euan McLean had to make a fine save at the feet of Loy to maintain his side's two goal advantage. The irrepressible David Goodwillie came close to adding to the goal tally on two occasions before the end of a match in which the Reserves consolidated their second place in the SPL Reserve League quite comfortably.
Trialist Che Bunce cruised through the game in the centre of the defence, well supported by Garry Kenneth, while Keith Watson again displayed his great promise with a fine display at right back. Barry Callaghan celebrated his return to action with a great goal and a strong overall display, while up front, David Goodwillie proved a constant threat to the Rangers defence and was unlucky not to get onto the scoresheet.
