RESERVES END UNBEATEN RUN

10th October 2006

The Reserves' unbeaten run wasn't extended to eight games as they suffered their first defeat of the season at Fir Park.

With only one striker Robbie Feeney available, the side lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation - McLean - Burnett, McMechan, Kenneth, Gardiner - Conway, Andreoni, Robertson, Easton - Smith - Feeney.

Frankly, the first half was a non-event with neither side really creating a chance worthy of the name.

Other than David Clarkson clipping the bar with a shot, not once was there the remote possibility of a goal.

At the interval, Lee Mair came on for Marco Andreoni with Neil McMechan moving to right back and Greg Burnett going into midfield.

And it brought a much-improved performance, but with only the inexperienced Robbie Feeney up front, there wasn't really any cutting edge to some otherwise good build up play.

The destination of the points was decided on the hour mark when Adam Coakley's cross from the left was headed home at the back post by Clarkson.

From then on it was total domination territorially by Tony Doc's lads, but without creating any clear-cut chances.

Having said that only a great save by home keeper Graeme Smith kept out a Willie Easton drive after 76 minutes, but that was as close as an equaliser beckoned.

Team: McLean, Burnett, Gardiner, Andreoni (Mair 46), McMechan, Kenneth, Conway, Robertson, Feeney, Smith, Easton. Subs not used: Gibson, Pope, Paterson, Jeffrey.
