UNDER-19S DRAW WITH HEARTS

14th October 2006

Stevie Campbell's side maintained their unbeaten league record this season at the Hearts Academy on Saturday morning.

That was mainly thanks to an excellent defensive performance in which keeper John Gibson was outstanding.

The visitors opened the scoring on 17 minutes when Chris Jeffrey drove to the right-hand touchline and crossed to the back where Marco Andreoni headed home from close range.

After Slater scored with a first time drive from around the penalty spot thirteen minutes later, Hearts had the better of the remainder of the opening half and only two great Gibson blocks kept them level.

In the second half, United gained control, but without getting a second and against the run of play, had to again thank Gibson for two further fine stops.

Three minutes later it was the turn of the Hearts keeper to come to his side's rescue denying Ryan McCord.

And the game went in to injury time with United pressing hard for what proved an elusive winner.

Team (4-4-2): Gibson, Milligan, McMechan, McGrath, Pope, Paterson, Andreoni, M McCord, Fleming; Feeney (Mathieson 75), Jeffrey.

Subs not used: Love, Allan, O'Hara, Gray, Russell.
