RESERVES LOSE TO CELTIC

24th October 2006

In this top of the table clash at New Broomfield, United's Reserves matched all-conquering Celtic for eighty-two minutes.

In fact, United had the better of the chances up to that point with Grant Smith blasting the ball over after good work from Goodwillie and Robertson, then David Marshall had to make an excellent save low down to his right from Craig Conway's powerful shot.

Kjartan Finbogason, however, capitalised on the visitors' first defensive slackness of the afternoon to open the scoring with a fine finish at the back post, then notched his second with the last kick of the ball after Wilkie had inexplicably allowed the ball to go behind him to the Icelandic winger's feet.

In between the goals, however, United still created chances, with a sparkling piece of wing play from Goodwillie ending with a thirty yard drive which flew wide of the far post, and a Lee Wilkie header from a Conway cross saved comfortably by Marshall.

Over the piece, the United's Reserves were unfortunate not to gain a share of the spoils at the very least.
