Dundee United confirms that after several hours of discussion between the various parties, Lee Miller joined Aberdeen late last night before the close of the transfer window.
Despite efforts to recruit a replacement, no suitable players were made available at this time. However, as the Manager had made it clear the player was no longer in his plans, it was thought to be in the best interests of the Club and the player to allow the transfer to proceed. The move will probably not come as surprise to most United fans.
The Manager has brought in five players during the recent transfer window and has confirmed that he is delighted with the way the squad has developed during this period. Nevertheless, he has confirmed that attempts to strengthen the squad will continue. Certain out of contract players have been identified and a number of trialists are due to arrive in the next few weeks.
Craig Brewster said today, "Rebuilding for the future must be based on decisions taken for the long term benefit of the Club. It is essential to build a balanced squad of players and, as such, some players have had to be moved on to accommodate this. All of these decisions, including the transfer of Lee Miller, have been mine. All of the decisions have been made for football reasons and I have been fully supported by the Board in all of these.
I am delighted with the attitude and performance of the five players brought in to date and with the new balance in the squad. I hope to bring in more players and I would have liked to have brought in a replacement for Lee before the close of the transfer window. However, it is important to get the right type of player as long term rebuilding continues."
