ICT 0 - 0 DUNDEE UNITED

16th September 2006

United and Caley battled out a highly entertaining and hard fought goalless draw. Both sides had the ball in the net only to be ruled offside by the referee.

Craig Brewster was forced to make a change to his defence with Garry Kenneth coming in for the injured David McCracken. Skipper Barry Robson returned from suspension with Noel Hunt dropping to the bench which left Collin Samuel as the lone striker. Caley were unchanged following their impressive 4-1 defeat of Motherwell last Saturday.

Early on, United man Craig Conway was desperately unlucky to see a shot come back off the crossbar. With ten minutes on the clock the home side went close when a Dargo header was brilliantly saved by Stillie. On the half hour mark, Proctor almost put one over his former employers but he blasted over from six yards out. With five minutes of the half left Caley should have had the lead when Bayne sprung the offside trap but again Stillie did well to save. United failed to clear and the ball eventually landed at the feet of Dargo who stroked the ball home but he was clearly in an offside position.

ICT started the second half looking the more likely but the balance of play changed when the United player-boss came on after 53 minutes. Within three minutes of coming on he headed just wide after Robson had been thwarted by Brown. Brewster had the ball in the net with twenty minutes left but just like Dargo in the first half he was correctly ruled offside. United almost got the three points with five minutes left when an inch perfect cross from Robb found the head of Robson who saw his effort superbly saved by Brown.

Summing Up: An entertaining game that could have gone either way. The draw was just about right but Robson's effort near the end could have sent the three points back to Tannadice.

Man of the match - Craig Conway. He had a superb match and gave the home defence a torrid time. Garry Kenneth also gave a very solid performance as did Derek Stillie between the posts.
