Two wonder strikes from Barry Robson and a counter from Stuart Duff were enough to give United their first win of the season. Ex-Dundee man Garry Brady was on target for the Buddies in a game that also saw United man Robson harshly red-carded in the dying minutes.
There were two changes to the team that saw off Airdrie during the week with Samuel and Duff coming in for Hunt and Miller.
United took the lead after 12 minutes with a great strike. Robson collected the ball from Kalvenes and then played a neat exchange of passes with Kerr. The United skipper then turned 20 yards out and sent in a low curling shot to the bottom left hand corner of the net. The visitors doubled their lead just after the half hour mark when Stuart Duff lashed home from six yards, taking advantage of poor defending from the home side.
The second half began with the home side pressing and two minutes in they were back in the game. Stewart Kean passed to Garry Brady who controlled the ball on the edge of the area. He fired a looping shot that Stillie did well to get his hands to but could not prevent from crossing the line. Six minutes later United restored their two goal lead when, following a horrendous mistake from goalkeeper Smith, Duff set up Robson who scored from 20 yards out via the underside of the crossbar. United were now playing superbly on the counter attack and almost made the result more impressive before the end through Samuel and Duff.
At the death there was a disappointment for United when Barry Robson was sent off for two debateable offences.
Summing Up: A great win for United and on top of that an excellent performance and a number of chances. It was good to see three goals following the previous two weekends where they had not scored.
Man of the match: - Despite his sending-off,
Robson was the main man for United and his two goals were first class. The skipper will be missed in the next game at home to Hibs.
