United coasted to an impressive 4-1 pre-season victory over Forfar. First half goals from Robb, Brewster and Miller had United in control with a stunning strike from Collin Samuel in the second half completing a good night's work. Former Dundee man, Paul Tosh, netted a consolation for the home side.
Craig Brewster named himself in a strong United line up for the game. Lee Mair made his first appearance of the pre-season and there was a place on the bench for Collin Samuel following his exertions in Germany.
The opening period belonged to the SPL side with Craig Conway running the show. Ten minutes in, he linked well with his manager and sent in a great cross which was headed home by fellow new boy Steven Robb. United doubled their lead ten minutes later when a Conway corner picked out Brewster, who was unmarked, and he bulleted a header past Murdoch. The game was virtually over as a contest with five minutes of the half left. A great run and pass by Conway picked out Robson who crossed to Brewster. His header came back off the upright and Lee Miller knocked the ball over the line.
The second half started with United looking more likely to add to their tally and twice Brewster was thwarted by Forfar goalkeeper Murdoch. With an hour played and against the run of play, Forfar pulled one back when Tosh volleyed past Derek Stillie. Five minutes later Samuel restored the visitors three goal cushion with a superb solo effort from twenty yards out. Towards the end of the game the manager introduced several youngsters to the fold and both Goodwillie and Callaghan came close to extending the Tangerines' advantage.
Summing Up: A very entertaining game and a good showing from United. Four goals will also give the team confidence going into Saturday's derby at Dens.
Man of the match: Craig Conway gave a great showing for the hour that he played and was involved in all three first half goals. He looks like an excellent addition to the United squad.
